The Engagement group raises some £14m per year to fund our mission and manages our brand and profile.  We are growing rapidly having just launched a new strategy with some highly ambitious goals.

Our Supporter Experience team ensure the Engagement Group operates to the highest standards of effectiveness, efficiency and compliance, providing the firm foundations for growth.  The team manages Data & Insight, Supporter Care and enables group- and charity-wide change.

Sitting in the Engagement Group but supporting the whole Charity the Insight Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring that we are able to make decisions, develop strategies and report against objectives effectively. You will provide insight into the Charity’s various sources of data as well as monitoring external sources and trends to ensure that the Charity’s activities have the best possible success.

Across the Action on Hearing Loss we generate large quantities of data, relating to, financial and operational performance; customer demographics and behaviour and market research and digital activity, most quantitative, some qualitative. We need someone with the right skills to help us analyse this data, spot patterns and trends, identify ways we can improve our performance, forecast future changes, and – vitally – communicate this understanding to people who need to know about it.

As well as the analytical, statistical and numerical capabilities you will have excellent communication and team working skills. You will also have a passion for solving problems, improving organisational understanding and performance.  Previous experience in the charity sector is helpful but not required; talent, the right mix of skills, an enquiring mind, and passion for social change are a must.

Job Description

Overall Purpose of the Role:

To change people’s lives by improving the way we understand and use our data to generate insights, improve our fundraising and marketing effectiveness and forecast future income and trends. To support the Engagement First Strategy.   

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively across the Charity to identify existing insights and analysis, identify where there are gaps or further requirements, develop and deliver a plan to provide insights to the organisation based on needs, strategic priority and impact.
  • Lead organisation wide group to identify analysis and insight needs, share outcomes and drive best practice. 
  • To maintain and develop tools that forecast future revenue and supporter trends, using statistical and modelling methods, including future legacy income, future income from regular, cash giving or product sales, and the performance of specific campaigns or supporter segments.
  • To proactively identify ways to improve our understanding of our contacts, including supporters, customers, campaigners and service users, amongst others, and their needs. In order that we can offer them a first class experience and forecast future income and behaviour
  • To investigate, analyse and report on specific aspects of our performance, uncovering trends and patterns in charity data and making recommendations for ways to improve performance
  • To proactively seek out analysis and reports to support the development of business intelligence in the group, and proactively identify ways we can improve our understanding of our supporters and stakeholders and improve our effectiveness.
  • To carry out reporting of data from various sources including the fundraising CRM ( Raisers Edge), email marketing tools, website analytics, and commercial product sales databases, among others.
  • To support the development of business cases and business models for new investments, ensuring that they are realistic and rationalised.
  • To support the development of supporter satisfaction measures, and analyse the results
  • Work with colleagues across the Charity to develop regular reporting to monitor both financial and non-financial KPIs
  • To participate in and support special projects to analyse and improve the way we use data across the charity
  • To keep up to date with trends and practices in the wider charity and marketing sectors.

Person Specification:
    
 

  Essential Desirable
Experience
  •  Experience of complex analysis and reporting in a fast paced environment.
  •  Experience of using data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Tableau, R and/or SPSS.  
  •  Experience of using data analysis to provide insight, with demonstrable experience of using insights to shape activities and strategy.
  • Experience of using statistical and/or modelling methods to forecast future trends and performance
  •  Experience of providing and analysing financial and management reports, and presenting this information to senior staff and colleagues.
  •  Experience of using Raiser’s Edge, FastStats and SQL Management Studio.
  •  Experience of working in the charity sector and particularly of fundraising and marketing.
  •  Experience of working with financial and non-financial datasets.
Qualifications / Professional Training
  • A numerate or statistical degree, or equivalent experience or relevant training.
  • A relevant master’s degree, and/or evidence of ongoing development and training within the field.
Skills / Knowledge
  •  Outstanding analytical skills
  •  Strong understanding of modelling and analytical techniques including, statistical inference and time series analysis. 
  •  An exacting standard of professionalism and attention to detail.
  •  Proven ability to generate insights from large datasets (financial datasets would be desirable).
  •  A good team worker, able to build effective and collaborative relationships throughout the organisation.
  •  Excellent organisational and administration skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise work on own initiative.
