We are looking for a Trust Fundraiser to join our successful Trusts and Grants team.  ­­­­­You will have excellent research skills, and be confident in persuasive communication, both written and oral, to convince funders of the importance of our cause and the impact their donation can make.

As well as managing an existing portfolio of Trusts, you will research and cultivate new supporters.  A key part of this role will be to maintain and build on our rolling programme of applications to Trusts with potential to give up to £5,000.  It is therefore essential that you have a good understanding and aptitude for using databases and excel.

You will make a central contribution to meeting the team’s ambitious targets and supporting the organisations strategy for 2020 and beyond.

Job Description

Overall Purpose of the Role:

To raise income from a portfolio of new and existing grant-making charitable trusts and foundations. A key part of this role will be to maintain and build on our rolling programme of applications to trusts with potential to give up to £5,000.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Fundraising:

  • To manage and develop a portfolio of trust donors, securing long term, increased value donations.
  • To be responsible for maintaining and building the small trust programme.
  • To identify, research and cultivate new trust prospects.
  • To be responsible for delivering personal income targets for the financial year, contributing to the trust annual income budget.
  • To be responsible for delivering monthly activity targets, such as the number of proposals submitted.
  • To develop a stewardship programme for your own portfolio, including writing relationship development plans for account-managed trust donors and prospects and following through on agreed next steps.
  • To contribute to the planning, organisation and execution of trust prospect cultivation and trust donor stewardship events. To contribute to the team’s overall stewardship plans in order to build strong and lasting face-to-face relationships with Trustees.
  • To research and tailor project information, in order to write appropriate and compelling grant applications which meet the aims and objectives of grant-making bodies.
  • To write, and submit in a timely fashion, appropriate written reports to funders on how grants have been spent.

Relationship Building:

  • To build supportive, effective working relationships with colleagues across the charity.
  • Be responsible for sourcing project information for allocated service areas, keeping all information accurate and up to date, and sharing this information proactively across fundraising.
  • Establish agreed ways of working with each allocated service area, gaining in-depth knowledge of current and upcoming service plans and future funding gaps and opportunities. 
  • To play a full role as a member of the Trust and Lottery Team, working with colleagues from the Major Donor and Corporate teams to ensure that all opportunities and prospects are developed to their full potential.

Other:

  • To maintain accurate income and information records on both Raisers Edge and paper files.
  • To follow all relevant processes including those for gathering information, restricting income and tracking activity.
  • To contribute to the development of the trust fundraising strategy and operational plan.
  • To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post at all times in compliance with all relevant law and especially the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice, GDPR and with Action on Hearing Loss’s policies, especially our Values, Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety.

Person specification:

  Essential Desirable
Experience
  • Proven track record of achieving income against agreed financial targets.
  • Proven track record of successfully applying to charitable trusts and/or the Big Lottery Fund, and preparing written reports to funders.
  • Demonstrable experience of writing high quality, persuasive applications to potential funders.

  • Ability to influence, persuade and negotiate with Trustees and key decision-makers of grant-making bodies, both in writing and face to face.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise accordingly.
